What Is It?
The Behaviour Development Program works with the key people in a child's or adult's life, teaching them new skills and ways of responding that will encourage positive behaviour change.
What Do We Do?
The Behaviour Development Program uses a mediator model where we train parents, caregivers and/or service providers to carry out programs designed by our consultants.
Clients receive weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly consultations.
Working With Individuals
- Connect with the caregiver over the phone to determine program suitability, and to explain the process.
- Conduct a home visit to explain the program, learn about the specific behaviour concerns, and determine needs.
- Have the caregiver fill out forms regarding the person's social history and behaviour.
- Based on observation and on information gathered, develop an Individual Treatment Plan with goals and objectives for behavioural change.
- Work with skills that the person already has and build on those.
- Assist caregiver in gaining effective interaction skills, which encourage positive behaviour
- Take small, manageable steps to attain goals.
- Use positive reinforcers, both tangible (treat), and natural (smile, "high five"), to effect positive change
- Arrange and provide workshops/training and provide reference materials (lending library) to mediators.
Please note, the individual can have different mediators in different settings (e.g. home, school, camp, workplace).
Clinical supervision is provided by a Consulting Psychologist on a regular basis.
